Brightness control on TP750 Mono

I've had my TP750 Mono, 8 MB ram for about 2 weeks now.  Everything
seems fine (I guess) except that the brightness control slide bar (it
is located to the right of the screen, below the contrast control slide
bar) doesn't appear to have much of an impact.  The contrast control
slide bar works fine.  Is it just my machine or does everyone else
experience the same?
