Buffer-to-host transfer rate, not disk-to-host transfer rate.  Most drives
can't read off the disk faster than 1MB/sec.  So you'll only suffer the
600% overhead for a fraction of a second.  Unless of course if you've got
a 6MB cache built into the hard drive, in which case it could last a full
second. 

The advantage of SCSI's bandwidth is more apparent when you have multiple
devices hanging off the same SCSI chain.
