The ThinkPad uses a standard RS-232D interface which is compatible with the
16550 UART. The pinouts for the male DB9 is:
Pin Name Description
--- ---- -----------
1 DCD Carrier Detect
2 RD Receive Data
3 TD Transmit Data
4 DTR Data Terminal Ready
5 SG Signal Ground
6 DSR Data Set Ready
7 RTS Request to Send
8 CTS Clear to Send
9 RI Ring Indicator
For a minimal interface to the HP, you probably only need 2,3 & 5.
If the HP needs hardware flow control, then 2,3,5,7 & 8.
