cdrom

Question:

Has anyone had experience running an external triple or quad speed
CD-ROM off their TP755?

IBM's latest offering is an external PCMCIA CD-ROM
double-speed and multi-session Photo CD compatible drive with
access time of 250 ms @ 300KB/sec. They are selling it with the
PCMCIA CD-ROM interface card (Type II socket) for $415.00. I called
IBM PC-Direct and the rep didn't even know that it existed and asked
me to fax him the news release on it (thank you Joshua)! I haven't
heard back from him as to availability but I do know that I can go
down to the nearest computer wholesale outlet and buy an external
double-speed CD-ROM for less than $200. But here comes the
question, how much would a third party PCMCIA CD-ROM interface
card cost and is it compatiable w/ the 755? I don't know if IBM's
interface card that comes with theirs is SCSI or not, but I know either
way that I will get faster throughput using PCMCIA as opposed to
parallel or serial.

So anyone out there running an external PCMCIA CD-ROM? Is it
double-, triple-, or quad-speed? How do you like it and where can I
get one?

If I go SCSI, does Colorado trakker make a SCSI 250-500MB backup
tape drive unit?

Thanks in advance.
