IBM ANNOUNCES THINKPAD EASYSERV OVERNIGHT REPAIR OPTION
November 8, 1994
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 8 . . . IBM today announced a
first-of-its-kind overnight "quick response" repair service for
its mobile PCs. This new nationwide service option for IBM mobile
products targets the wide range of business and professional
travelers who rely upon IBM mobile computers as an essential work
tool.
The service, known as ThinkPad* EasyServ overnight repair
option, will allow owners to ship their IBM mobile products via
FedEx from most locations in the continental U.S. and have the
repaired unit returned the next business day to the same location
or a different city. For example, a business traveler can ship
her mobile PC from New York on Monday and receive the repaired
unit in Los Angeles on Tuesday. There will be a charge of $99
(by credit card only) for ThinkPad EasyServ next-day repair.
This new service, available in January 1995, marks a major
enhancement of ThinkPad EasyServ, which already provides
convenient pickup-and-return repair service. Standard ThinkPad
EasyServ, with an average turnaround of two business days,
currently is offered at no charge to customers with IBM mobile
products that are under warranty or IBM maintenance agreements.
To provide this overnight repair service, IBM will use the
capabilities of Technology Service Solutions (TSS), an IBM-Kodak
joint venture established in 1993 to provide competitively priced,
single-source service to the multivendor desktop, LAN and
client/server environment. TSS has created an overnight national
service depot in Memphis and is working with FedEx Logistics
Services, a division of Federal Express Corporation, to expedite
the entire repair and shipment process.
Owners of IBM mobile products now have the assurance of
knowing that ThinkPad EasyServ is available on an overnight
basis, even if they're traveling across the country. Working
with Technology Service Solutions, IBM can now deliver not just
the industry's fastest repair service, but also the most
user-friendly.
"This unique repair service spells peace of mind for mobile
product owners," said Richard J. Hernandez, chief executive
officer of Technology Service Solutions, based in Valley Forge,
Pa. "Our combination of overnight turnaround and truly
personalized mobile service makes this the perfect solution for
the growing number of corporate and individual owners who need
full availability from their mobile systems."
This premium repair service is also available to
international customers covered by an International Enhanced
Maintenance Service Contract while traveling in the U.S.
