need more memory

Hi all

I'm going to need more than 4mb of ram for a piece of software I will 
have to use next year,  I currently have 4mb, no pcmcia slots available,  
Can someone give me some suggestions on how I would be able to upgrade 
the current 4mb to either 8 or 12mb depending on the costs involved.
