I was getting the same (General Prot. Fault) errors using Word under Windows
on a 755c.  Someone suggested adding the following line to one of the windows
.INI files (I think it was WINDOWS.INI or SYSTEM.INI), and it seems to help.
The machine has 4 MB, so low memory may have something to do with the problem.
