Ram compatabilty for 700-755
There appears to be a question about whether dram cards are compatable
between the different Thinkpad models in the 700-755 series.
I had an 8 mg dram card designated for a 750C that worked fine in my 720.
When I tried to use the card in my 755C it worked well at first, but then I
had various minor problems. I called IBM and was told that dram cards are
downward compatable. Meaning that a 755 card would work on 750 and lower
model numbers. There may not be complete upward compatabilty as the specs
modified slightly for the newer models. Meaning that a 720 card might not
work on a 755.
I was warned that this applies only to IBM products. Apparently, third party
manufactured dram cards may or may not be compatable.
My card was a third party product. The 750 card continues to work well in my
720. The new 755 dram card works well in my 755.
Be warned I'm just a dumb lawyer with no real tech knowledge so the forgoing
is only anecdotal info at best.
