I have a Thinkpad 360CSE working with Linux and X-Windows. It is very
stable. I also have a GVC Ethernet card and a GVC modem card. I have
used the ethernet card tons and it works great. The modem I just recently
purchased so can't say much yet. I *think* the IBM ethernet card is
supported by Linux.

Linux on a Thinkpad does require some extra work but its not too hard.
The WWW server http://peipa.essex.ac.uk explains things fairly well.

I have also had a Thinkpad 750 working and will soon be getting a
755CE that I will be setting up.
