experience with docks?

i haven't received any replies to my message about docks & external video
cards; does that mean noone's ever tried it?  would you *expect* it to work?
does anyone have any experience with docks at all?  does the dock II
actually exist? 
(i've see specs for it in several places, but never a picture -- what does
it look like?)  enquiring minds want to know.
