Better Display driverss found?!
Hi,
ISome weeks ago i played around at Hobbes (ftp for OS2/2) and found a file
called somethink g like "wdc.zip"...
Anyway, it contains display drivers forWestern Digital drivers for OS/"WD90C24/31 dricvevers for OS/2.... WhatsI. but ; I My mothermother has
got a thinlkkpad of her owntoo, although only with windoze.., asso I took the driver called
"WD2408" .DRV" and (ment provide d for seamless windows") and renamed it VDC24.DRV. It is
considerably faster than the ones provided on the thinkpad disks"!
To>YYou hYou have to change the setteings in system.ini, too:
(8[WD90C24] (Note! New head!)
WidthxHeight=640x480 (for examplechoose res)
dacdepth=6
Enable216=0
Fontsize=small
HWCursor=YEses
HWBitBlt=Yes
HWLineDraw=Yes
I found these settings by browsing thorugh rough the .DSP files for OS/"2 on the di[C[Con the disk.,
but there and more interesting: thertee atre entries in these files sayintating modes like
"WDC"$24 800x600x65536 accelerated"! (On ext monitor)
Now, I konwnow that many peooof you have satated that th[Cd that this chip is only 8.-bit, but is
thia s based on facts, or is it a conclusiontrhha the situation that 16-bit drivers arte none-existant?
(NOTEI suppose that 2408 means an 8-bit driverr - the higher mode uses WD3116.DRV, whereere the 16 supposedly stands for 16-bit .. THe descriptipoon al, although, says
WD)=C90C24 high-color, too.")
I haven't playerd with it that much, but and I havendt't ggoptt high-color to work on
an external monitor. But perhaps some of you aoout are a little more skilled?
(It would be nice to have more colors, and the drivers are faster!)
When I think of it, doesn't the new VERSA and Thinkpads offer high-color with
the WD90C24aA?
Good Luck,
Erik
