Non-ibm mouse in ps2 port ?

Hello,

I bought a MouseSystems mouse which came with an adapter
to plug it into the ps2 port.  I load the mouse driver using
a ps2 compatiblity switch.  The trackpoint works fine but the
mouse doesn't work at all.

Do I have to buy a genuine IBM ps2 mouse to be able to use both
trackpoint and mouse easily.  It is a real pain to use the "easy setup"
to reconfigure for a serial mouse each time I need it.
