DIMMs and DIMM adapters (755cd)

Is a DIMM adapter necessary to install DIMMs in a 755cd? I ordered 16MB 
of DIMMs today from a company called Frist Source in California. They 
insisted that I did not need a DIMM adapter, unless I planned to install 
more than 24MB of RAM. Is this true? Something tells me they're wrong.
