Here's the only public announcement so far by IBM on Pentium upgrades for
thinkpads. This upgrade is only for the 755CE,CD, & CSE. If they have
one in the works for the lower models they haven't mentioned it yet.

ThinkPad Pentium** Upgrade optional features for the ThinkPad 755CE,
CSE, and CD are also available. The features allow current users of
these systems to upgrade the processor from the IntelDX4** 100MHz to
the Intel Pentium processor for increased performance.

Intel Pentium Processor with L2 Cache Upgrade Option
This option requires installation by an IBM-trained servicer. The
upgrade option can be installed on ThinkPad 755CE, CSE, and CD. The
ThinkPad Pentium Upgrade option contains the following items:
o Installation instructions
o User's reference and warranty pages
o System program service diskette
o Utility Diskette Version 1.10
o Pentium processor card assembly
o Miscellaneous components
Pentium Upgrade Option for ThinkPad 755CE, CSE, and CD: Installation
of the Pentium Upgrade option in the ThinkPad 755CE, CSE, and CD
disables the parity check function of the system.
Planning Information
The ThinkPad Pentium Upgrade Kit (755CS/CSE/CD) is not customer installable.
The following new optional features for the 755CE, CSE, and CD can
only be installed by IBM-trained service personnel.
