755CX first impressions

I picked up a 755CX yesterday with the SVGA screen. The screen is very
nice, fully comparable to the previous screens, but the extra resolution
really helps readability, and you can get significantly more on the screen.

The Lithium Ion battery figures are *accurate* (for the first time, IBM
always was less than frank [that's being polite) about the NiCad times.
So what I see is that the Lithium Ion batteries give at least 50% more
running time.

[today, I ran the CX continuously in high power mode, doing lots of
diskete and disk IO, I have 40 megs memory total, and the battery
lasted 3 hours 15 minutes). So the pubvlished specs, which show a
much smaller advantage lie, and merely reflect the fact that the Nicad
figures are inflated while the LI results are not (I talked to one of
the support people, and noted that, and he said that he was glad to hear
it, and perhaps marketing had finally got the message from the help center
guys complaining about the bogus battery life figures!)

The MWave modem works fine, but I had to get a special 4 page FAX
from the help center to tell me exactly how to get it to work. By
the way, I was tremendously impressed by those guys, they are
very sharp and really work hard to assist.

I had one glitch with my CX, which is that hte little blue ribbon
came off the battery. Well they are sending me a replacement by
overnight express, with a request to send back the other one later.
Again, impressive service I think.
