Forgive, but it seems we're talking about different ThinkPads here.  
What CD drivers?  Do you have a 755CD (486DX100) or 755CX (Pentium 75)??
The new 755CX (75Mhz Pentium with 800x600 @65k color display) doesn't
have or need CD drivers (unless you're talking about an external CD drive).

I called IBM today and their Engineering Support people confirmed that the
755CX Black active-matrix TFT display DOES indeed have a screen resolution
of 800x600 at a color depth of 65,536 colors.  The 755CD might support 65K
color depths at 640x480, but that's a different machine with a different 
display.  The topic reads "RE: 755cx". Which model are you talking about?  

Either your information is inaccurate or the 755cx video drivers and display 
do not support 800x600 @65K colors and IBM is guilty of false advertising.

I should be able to add more to this discussion after I receive my new 
755cx tomorrow.
