755CX - Color Depth / Bad "Pixels"
Hello All,
I received my 755cx today with new SVGA display and have
confirmed that it does allow a color depth of 65K colors
at an 800x600 resolution. I was able to install the
driver without any problems under Windows. IBM's
interactive ThinkPad demo program looks great at this
resolution and color depth. Very impressive.
Also, I know that bad pixels (TFTs) are, as IBM says on page
205 of the 755cx manual, "an intrinsic characteristic of TFT
LCD technology and is not an LCD defect". I was wondering how
many bad "TFTs" you can see on your ThinkPad display?
My display has a single bad TFT (dot) just right of center,
but the bright red color makes it standout. I find it a
little distracting, but probably will get use to it.
I've read several discussions of bad TFTs in LCD displays
on several newsgroups. Some of the engineers who design
these displays have confirmed that almost all LCD displays
have some bad TFTs, it's just a question of what percentage
of bad ones are acceptable to the computer manufacturer who
buys them.
When I've had more time to "evaluate" the 755cx, I'll post
my overall impressions. So far, I'm very impressed.
