actually (and of course this is itself an example), the only time we see
a real burst of activity on this list is when we discuss changing it in
some way, then we decide not to, and everything calms down again.

incidentally, I very much agree that this mailing list is better than a
newsgroup, the usenet news grsoups are deteriorating these days ...
