AC Adaptor
There is a small problem in the design of the AC adaptor. The end that plugs
into the ThinkPad is a rigid connector about 1.5in (3.75cm) long that sticks
straight back from the ThinkPad. When I was working with IBM to diagnose a
problem (turned out to be a bad DSP card), they asked for my machine's serial
number each time I called. That means I had to tilt the machine up to see the
tag on the bottom.
It's easy to forget that the plug is back there. The first tilt back did the
most damage to the connector, and I managed to do it once or twice more.
Although the connector is still electrically sound, another accident like that
will probably crack the connecting plug in two, so I ordered the old 40W
"travel adapter" as a replacement.
The travel adapter is the one with the retractable wall plug and a ThinkPad
plug that is only about .5in (1.25cm) long. PC Direct doesn't carry it, but
it is still available from the Boulder Parts Center for US$85.
Be seeing you...
