Thinkpads and Netscape

I've run into a problem using a 755CD and the Netscape Internet WWW browser. 
Netscape 1.1N includes a built in .au player.  Unfortunately, while running 
netscape and attempting to play an .au file, the whole system freezes.  The 
Netscape technical support folks claim it must be a sound card problem.

Anyone had a similiar problem or possibly a fix for this?
