The confusing thing about sound on the TP is that there are two sources
for drivers: one from OS/2 development, and the other from Thinkpad
development. The one from OS/2 (ships with Warp, recommended by the
Thinkpad folks) does *not* support Soundblaster/Adlib/Roland emulation in
a DOS box. What I did was install multimedia, but no sound drivers. Then
I installed the OS/2 2.1 sound drivers that came with my Thinkpad. These
seem to be somewhat buggier, sometimes crashing. They've also released an
update disk for OS/2 and WinOS2. Get both from ftp.pcco.ibm.com in
/pub/mobiles.
Whatever you do, make sure you DON'T install BOTH drivers (Warp and
Thinkpad). That's almost guaranteed to crash OS/2 every time you
try to use DOS sounds. Device drivers operate at a higher priority
level than programs and can hose a protected system like OS/2.

Yes, there's a way. Pop up the settings folder on the app, and there
should be a section on associations or something. Just add the *.???
extension to the list. Note that you can associate more than one app
with a file type -- one is the default and the others can be called up
with the pop-up menu (right mouse button) on the file.

There's a web site out there called Stupid OS/2 Tricks.
