personal computers and PCMCIA-equipped portable computers for
applications including entertainment, games, education, training,
business presentations, and pro audio. Select from four new
multimedia products.

The 16-Bit DSP Wavetable Sound Card is based on the latest Mwave(R)
digital signal processor (DSP) technology, which provides Sound
Blaster(1) compatibility and outstanding audio performance for
business and home use.

The 3D PCMCIA Sound Card, also based on the Mwave DSP, is the only
product of its kind that supports many applications written to the
Sound Blaster interface while also providing superior sound quality
through wavetable synthesis. An optional accessory, the 3D PCMCIA
Sound Card Attach Module, provides a built-in microphone and
connections for MIDI devices or a joystick.

If you only require the playback of DVI video files, the ActionMedia
II Lite Video Player offers a lower priced alternative to the popular
ActionMedia II products.

3D PCMCIA SOUND CARD (08H4188)

In Brief...

o A new, state-of-the-art sound card for upgrading your portable PC
for applications including entertainment, games, education,
training, business presentations, and pro audio
o The latest IBM DSP technology and a 16-voice, 128 instrument
wavetable synthesizer for the very best in stereo sound from your
   PC
o 16-bit, CD-quality stereo record and playback at sample rates up
   to 44.1KHz
o Q-Sound 3D sound support
o MIDI support for Windows and OS/2
o Windows Sound System 2.0 supported
o Optional joystick and MIDI device support
o Sound Blaster games played and improved sound synthesis techniques
   and entertainment special effects supported
o Ideal for adding multimedia to your PC or upgrading the sound card
   in your multimedia-enabled computer
o IBM and non-IBM portable computers supported with compliant PCMCIA
   Type II slots

The 3D PCMCIA Sound Card provides desktop performance in a portable
PC card form factor. The powerful Mwave DSP drives the Wavetable
MIDI process without impacting your computer's CPU. The result is
high-quality wavetable sound, often without slowing down your
computer, preserving the horsepower required to play games or run
your presentations.

This product is one of the first DSPs available in a PCMCIA sound
card, and with that comes the advantage of future software upgrades
that add more sounds and capability.

Included with the 3D PCMCIA Sound Card are:

o A cable that attaches to the card and provides connectors for
line-in (microphone, stereo system) and line-out (headphones,
   stereo system)
o Earphones (earplug-style headphones)
o Automated installation software
o Software support for PC DOS, Windows, and OS/2 (OS/2 support
   available fourth quarter 1995)
o Installation manual and user's guide

A precision analog to digital converter (ADC) turns your voice or
music into stereo, CD-quality digital files that enhance your
business presentations or entertain family and friends. Sound this
crisp makes playing games a whole new experience. 3D sound will
surround you when Q-Sound** is unleashed. Advanced,
IBM-patent-pending technology enables the 3D PCMCIA Sound Card to
play the music plus all the exciting sound effects in popular Sound
Blaster-compatible games. Many other portable solutions only give
you the music.

With high-quality wavetable sound, you have the option to use highly
efficient MIDI files instead of resource-consuming digital .WAV files
in your business presentations. The sound quality of wavetable
synthesis is superior to FM synthesis because it is based on digital
recordings of the actual instruments. If you need to play digital
.WAV files, the DSP processor has the power to play multiple files at
the same time.

Product Positioning: This product addresses a new tier of PCMCIA
audio product, with higher function and price compared to the PCMCIA
Audio Adapter (87G9748).

The IBM 3D PCMCIA Sound Card is for portable PCs that you want to add
audio to, or upgrade the existing audio to wavetable sound and
game/joystick support. Especially beneficial with older portable
PCs, the DSP on the card does most of the work and can therefore
operate in systems with older processors and less system memory.
