Don't have all the answers you are looking for right now but here are the
basics:

 Is it possible to hook up an internal SCSI drive (with ribbon cable) ?

YES

 And lastly,
>is the SCSI adapter made by Adaptec or IBM ? This might affect the
>availability of ASPI and other drivers.

Is is an Adaptec adapter.  Had no problem recognizing my SCSI Zip Drive.  Am
also using it w/ OS/2 Warp and it also works like a charm.
