C'mon people, IBM covers their ass in these things. Contrary to what many of
us think from time to time, (myself included) Forrest Gump is not running
the works there, they actually *do* have a pretty good grip on the
legalities of marketing computer products...
All they have to do is show that they could or did ship 'a unit' when they
announce the product. I'm certain they have shipped more than one unit of
the 760CD.
Doug Fairclough mentioned in an earlier e-mail that you should wait until
resellers have stock on hand before you order a unit... Bad idea, unless you
are willing to wait several months while all the back-orders are filled first.
I know this is evil, but, the best thing to do if you "gotta" have the unit
pronto is to source as many vendors as possible and place an order with each
one. They can't charge/invoice you until they ship (at least in the US),
and all you do is cancel the other orders when the first unit arrives. In
the event you are shipped multiple units, send the others back and you will
be credited by the reseller or IBM since IBM maintains a 30-day no Q's asked
return policy. I know it's a little more legwork, but if you *really*
want/need it...
Keep in mind, this advice is targeted for US consumers only...
