Re: 755 Suspend

Hello,

I just did a clean install (newly partitioned and formatted HD) of
Win 95 to a 755CX while in a Dock 2 using a CD-ROM (IBM 4x SCSI).
(The dock also has a 2 GB SCSI disk with Warp Connect on HPFS partition).
The machine has 40 MB of RAM and the SVGA 800x600 display.
Because of problems while doing this the first time, I built a boot
floppy that had the SCSI driver and the CD ROM driver (from the Dock
II diskette and the CD-ROM disk). I then did a floppy boot and an
install from the CD-ROM. I have the 1.4 BIOS installed.

The install went fine. Selected 800x600 hi color. Works fine in the
dock. Selected 32-bit PCMCIA drivers. Installed Mwave for DOS 2.0.
It complained about no autoexec.bat. Made a autoexec.bat file with
a single REM line. Reinstalled Mwave DOS 2.0 without complaint.
Installed Mwave for Win95 2.1. Installed MWave MIDI samples 1.0.
Installed TP utilities. Shutdown and removed from the
Dock II. Connected to a Port Replicator (one with PCMCIA slots).

Started the 755CX - Win95 noticed the change and reconfigured itself.
I changed the name to Port_Replicator rather than Dock2. I reselected
800x600 and hicolor. Rebooted and it came up fine. Shutdown.

Disconnected from the Port Replicator. Powered up - Win95 noticed
another change and reconfigured again calling it Undocked. I reselected
800x600 and hicolor. Rebooted and it came up fine.

Shut down and put in the Dock II. It booted immediately into the Dock
configuration! Installed MS Office Pro for 95/NT from CD - worked without
a hitch.

I can suspend when connected to the Port Replicator or undocked (have
not tried in the Dock II yet) using the fuel icon suspend button or the
Win95 button from the start menu. Have not tried hibernate (got to make
the file first I suppose but it sure is BIG with 40 MB).

Now if I can only figure out how to have the Win95 PPP connect to the Solaris
2.4 PPP at work (I can get a terminal open but I can't get PPP to work).
Modem dials fine and I can login as a text mode user fine. I know the PPP
works on the Solaris end and the TP hardware is fine as I have OS/2 Warp with
PPP on another HD and it connects fine. Suggestions anyone?

It seems that it is best to do a CLEAN install of Win95 without ANY real mode
drivers if you can. The first attempt I made by using a disk with a DOS
partition with Win 3.1 installed didn't work nearly as well (crashes, would not
shut down, ...).

Now for NT 3.51? or do I dare?

Good luck,

Stuart
