I had a heck of a time getting TE2 to work with the Mwave modem. Finaly
after fiddling around I got it. I don't remember exactly what I did, but
my config.sys file has in it

DEVICE=D:\THINKPAD\COM.SYS (2,2F8,3)

which looks similar to what you have
