Re: thinkpad 760c speed

There was no disk usage during the benchmark. My paging space is 72MB,
but no paging had taken place.

The benchmark I was using (and posted) only uses ~250KB of memory, so
paging isn't an issue. Cache size might be. I think the 760C has a
256KB external cache.

I guess my primary question to you all is should I expect such a large
drop in performance going from a 90MHz pentium desktop machine (PCI bus
I guess) to 120MHz pentium laptop w/o PCI? It would seem that the
thinkpad's bus and memory are a lot slower (perhaps for power reasons).

Perhaps I'm being stupid in being surprised by a laptop with a faster
CPU being so much slower than a desktop machine with a slower
processor. Maybe I should've gotten the 90MHz 760c; I wonder if it
would actually be any slower if bus speed and memory are really the
limiting factor. I appologize for my ignorance of PC hardware.

Still, I'm wondering if there is a problem with my machine. So, if any
of you out there have a 760c, I'd really appreciate it if you could run
my benchmark.
