A friend just acquired a 701Cs and (knowing that I'm a long-time owner
of a 750, but ignorant of the fact that I am almost computer
illiterate!) asked me why she's having so much trouble with the
internal modem. Well, *I* certainly don't know - tried to figure it
out, but failed miserably. Anyway, Windows Terminal ALWAYS recognizes
the modem, but Trumpet MOST OF THE TIME replies that the modem is not
responding... Same thing is true for other comms programs: sometimes
the modem simply vanishes!... Any suggestions?... Thanks.

I had internal modem woes but IBM service informed me that there is a
problem with the modem. Since the 701C is discontinued I don't expect any
fixes. My solution is simple: move into a pc card 28.8. All better now,
and the speed is up to boot...
