MWAVE stopped working under Win3.1

I don't recall making any system changes, but suddenly my MWAVE modem 
under Windows 3.1 has stopped working.  Everything works fine under
DOS, but executing mwmwin within mww\modem no longer fires up the modem.
All my sound stuff is toast too.  I tried to reinstall MWAVE2 for windows,
but I got a truly informative message saying that I have -1 bytes
remaining on my drive.  It does make me worry about disk problems, but
everything else on my drive including Linux seems to be fine.  Anyone
have any ideas on this one?  I'm really trying to avoid editorial
comments about Windows, but ooooh it's hard.
