Instructions for upgrading harddrive?

I recall that a few months ago there were some lively discussions 
on upgrading the disk drive when you had to use the existing
Thinkpad caddy.  I think that someone had detailed instructions
for doing that ... can anyone point me to them?

Once the drive is upgrades, is the Thinkpad BIOS autosensing
for the drive characteristics or just how do you enter the new 
info?
