Mwave Modem- why not "cellular ready?"

I confess to some confusion about what "Cellular" or "Cellular Ready" means.
I also confess to not having played around with the subject YET <grin>.

For example, we use a cellular-type of telephone called the Tele-GO phone.
When at home, the phone communicates with its base station and acts
precisely as any other cordless phone in our home- but in the 900 MHz range.
When the handset cannot communicate with the base station, as in distance,
it automatically switches over to the cellular mode. The printed material
that came with the phone describes a connector cord that can connect it to a
modem.

Does this mean I can connect it to the Mwave modem port on my TP755CD, or
must I first purchase another PCMCIA card modem that is "cellular ready?"
Since the Mwave modem is programmable, why can't it be programmed to
duplicat a "cellular ready" modem- whatever that is?

BTW- for those of you who might be carrying your laptop around an office or
hospital, you might consider the Tele-Go type of dual phone- particularly if
it would give you free communications access to a phone line when within
range of the base station. On my own setup, that appears to be about 1000'.
