Auto File merging/archiving

I'm looking for a utility on Windows 95 to use with our Thinkpads 
here that will allow one to perform backups and other file operations;
similar to what Briefcase does, but for any folder/directory on the 
local/remote filesystem. (i.e. dragging the things into a briefcase or
other folder is not what I want; it needs to work with *existing*
file structures w/o moving anything around)

There is a tool for Macs (that I have used in the past) called PowerMerge
that did exactly this.

Anyone have such a thing for PC's?
