The 760 has L2 cache, but the CD doesn't have EDO memory (the ED has 64-bit
EDO memory). Any peripherals are also slower on the CD, since it's an ISA
bus (the ED is PCI). The ED also has a 64-bit graphics adapter.

But, your premise is correct; the laptops historically have been slower. I
think the latest generation (with PCI, EDO, etc.) will get closer, but will
likely still be slower.
