Since computers left the geekdome and entered the mainstream of the
mainstream.
I mean, look at the bozo law student that used to be on this list that had
a baby because someone's mailer mistake filled his box with garbage. He
couldn't comprehend that someone (other than himself) might make a mistake,
so I don't think it's reasonable to think he might comprehend 1024 or
1024^2.
Like F and C, I'm comfortable dealing with sizes either way. If I'm
programming and thinking in hex, then of course it's natural for me to
think in 1024 or 1024^1024 byte blocks. But if I'm looking at a filesize
and thinking rough modem transfer time (i.e. "short", "ok", "mmm, maybe
long"), then I just lop off three or six digits and there's my K and M.
But then, I'm used to doing this with yen and dollars as well. While I've
been in Japan, the yen has been anywhere from 0.78 cents to to 1.65 cents,
but it's always 1.000000000 cents in rough calculations.
