RE: 755cd ac adapter connector problem

Is your connector inside of a plastic rectangular handle that's about 2.5 or 3
inches long? My original ThinkPad power supply had such a connector, and it's
simply the most under-engineered thing I've ever seen: any force on the cable
will just stress the connector and cause it to break. Someone on CompuServe
posted that theirs snapped on the first day because the computer was on a desk
and they picked up the front end of it to look for the serial number.

IBM reps on CompuServe weren't at all responsive when I complained. I ended
up requesting a warranty replacement for mine (after trying to glue it). The
connector is a piece of trash _inside_, too: because of its construction, it's
likely to short or open even if damage isn't visible to the exterior because
the connectors are tack-welded and are the only structural member in the very
last half-inch of the plug.

The warranty power supply was entirely different: it was bigger, but lighter.
The cable from the power cube to the connector was thicker, and made of a
single, small piece of molded plastic: that is, it was of a competant design.

I like my ThinkPad, but the MWave device and the original power plug are two
huge weaknesses.

Subject: 755cd ac adapter connector problem

Hi,

I have recently started having trouble with the ac adapter plug
that goes into the back of my 755cd (4 pin with beveled corners)
It appears that electrical contact is not well made, and I have
to jiggle the connector or prop a book up against it for
power to flow (& the battery to charge) I suspect it is just the connector.

Has anyone experienced such problems ? Does anyone know of a fix?

Thanks
