By tilting the computer with the feet, you have angled it giving the air a path to flow from. As the air is heated, it will rise and allow cool air to come in and start the process all over again. The computer will stay cooler by tilting it with the feet than by pressing it against something, *unless* that something you can press it against makes a good heat sink. A wooden table is *not* going to make a good heat sink.
