Linux on thinkpad

we want to put Linux on a 760ED, anyone have a good starting point?
is there an FAQ which would help? What special drivers do we need etc?
   Thanks for any help!

The main problem with the 760 series seems to be the video support
(surprise). There has been considerable trouble getting the 760C to
work right -- to my knowledge there is only one XFree86 server that
works correctly, a patched unreleased one -- and I have heard some
rumblings to the effect that none of the existing servers works on the
760E series (but this is rumor not fact).

There are also some weird timing problems with the 760C, which may or
may not be present in the 760E. Things to watch out for include: very
bad ethernet and SCSI performance, including occasional hard crashes
with SCSI, and missed LCP echo packets in PPP, causing random
disconnects. The ethernet and SCSI problems are solved by using a
recent development kernel and PCMCIA. I don't know of any solution to
the PPP problems, just workarounds.

And of course, MWave doesn't work at all, although there are some
people working on fixing this. I am uncertain about whether this
effort will converge.
