HD password

What is this about the HD password making the whole thinkpad
useless?  Do you mean that the Thinkpad stays useless after
you take the drive back out and put in an unprotected one?
That would make trying a used disk sound very dangerous.

On the other hand, a password that protects only the data
on the drive is useless.  All someone after your data has
to do is pull out the drive and put it into another machine
that doesn't check for disk passwords.  The only way to really
protect the privacy or your disk data is by encrypting all of it.
