	Ever tried SETTING the 701 to display to the monitor ???
	I know this may be dumb, but sometimes even I myself forget to 
press FN+F7 to set switch between LCD/CRT/LCD+CRT. Give it a try :)
	If not, try checking out the video drivers for ur vga drivers.
	Also, next time, try booting up the system (LCD only) and after 
everything starts up (after he boot sequence) then switch to CRT or 
LCD+CRT. (The LCD+CRT mode seems to use a lower sync freq which works on 
most VGA monitor)
	Lastly if driven to desperation,  use dos. A text mode display 
WOULD work on any VGA monitors.. I hope :)
