There have been major problems with the BIOS support for advanced parallel
port functions. Early on in the life of the 701, we needed a number of BIOS
upgrades to get a parallel-port CD-ROM to work consistently (and then,
frankly, it didn't always work!). My advice is to make sure you have a
fairly recent BIOS installed, and, if you do, call IBM and talk with them
about any known problems with the current 701 BIOS level and the parallel port.
