If it's the same thing as the 750's connector, there's an RF choke
inside the thing.  Mine broke in half and you could slide the choke up
and down the cord.  I didn't bother getting it fixed until the cable
started to fray near the connector because of the 90 degree turn it
usually made there.  IBM replaced it by shipping me a new AC adapter
overnight so I never really considered it a problem.  (That's why the
AC adapter is new, Howard.  :)

Your cord acts like an antenna and picks up RF signals.  The RF choke
filters much of this out.  Just how useful this is open to question.
