New Toshiba Prices (TP To Follow?)

A quick note for those of you who participated in the "Tecra 720 vs.
TP760ED" discussion a few weeks back, as well as anyone planning to purchase
either machine. 

 Toshiba announced new prices on 1 August, with the list price of the 720CDT
falling to $5,399 (and the 500, which is virtually identical except for the
SVGA screen and 120 MHz processor, to $4,699).  

Although IBM will no doubt hold out for a little while based on the praise
(and benchmark performance) in PC Magazine's current issue, my impression is
that pricing of the 760 line has tended to track that of the Tecra --
despite the strong performance, it will be hard for IBM to sustain a
$1,600-$2,300 price premium for long.
