Killing OS/2 Warp, How?
I am new to this ListServ, I apologize if this topic has already been
discussed and I missed the dialog, but here we go.
How to I kill off OS/2 Warp on my IBM ThinkPad 760CD. When I first set it
up I decided that I would be using Windows 3.11 but I also wanted to keep
OS/2 Warp on my system so that I could eventually check it out. Wrong!
After spending several weeks getting my system setup just the way I like it
in Windows 3.11 I decided one day to try out OS/2 Warp. I used the Go to
OS/2 Warp icon. OS/2 Warp seemed to load OK, I played with it for a few
minutes and I was basically underwelmed. I then switched back to Windows
3.11, or I thought I did. After five days of troubleshooting I am now back
to square one in WIndows 3.11. Basically, to make a long story short, OS/2
Warp wrote over my WIN.COM file. This new WIN.COM file was for 3.1, was
30,882 bytes, and dated 03-23-95. It insisted on loading 84K of
conventional memory. The result was that I did not have enough conventional
memory to do anything! When I finally replaced WIN.COM with a 3.11 files,
50,904 bytes, and dated 05-14-96, my problems went away. Now WIN.COM only
take up 2K, as it should. This solution was only found after I wasted much
of my time playing around with AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI,
SYSTEM.INI, and all the other files I normally check when I run into
conventional memory problems.
As a consequence of this experience, I want to totally remove OS/2 Warp
from my laptop. I have not found a delete or erase option with it. How
does one go about it? What subdirectories do I have to delete? What files
must go? Are there any parameters in INI files that must be altered? Any
advice would be appreciated, thank you.
