This problem is just a plain old X server bug, attacking the XF86Config file will not help. This is fixed in XFree86 3.1.2F which will be out later this week. As an interim measure, try hitting the switch-monitors Fn toggle a couple times after starting the X server. Alternatively, the XF86_VGA16 server should work. --jhawk
