Re: Buying hardware in Hongkong?

major problem with buying far from where you live is warrenty service and/or
return if it doesn't work. even companies that offer 'international'
warrenties may not service products bought outside the country in which
the national subdivision operates. in other words, if i bought a thinkpad
while visiting the u.s., and brought it back here to aus, the australian
ibm people might be reluctant/refuse to service it because a) i live here;
b) i am not just visiting; and, c) because they didn't sell it to me yet
would have to charge the costs of service against their sales.

i am just speculating re ibm, but that is how it works for many companies
and their international warrenties - they are good only if you are travelling,
temporarily in another country.

please correct me if this has changed.

regards, al
