The reason I mentioned the motherboard speed was because with the
Pentiums, Intel started doing all sorts of strange things: clock
doubling, tripling, 2.5x-ing. I don't know all the clock multiples,
but if you think about a clock-doubled 486/50, and a tripled 486/75,
you can see how the latter will be less than 1.5 times faster than
the former. In fact, I think a doubled 486/66 is faster than the
tripled 486/75 for some functions.
