RE: Iomega Zip drive and more

I am using the zip drive on a maxed out SCSI chain. Mixed connectors, including 25 pin, 50 pin low denisity and 50 pin high density, mixed cables (flat ID and twisted pair). Chain includes wide fast controller(adaptec 2940 w), wide fast hard drive (segate), zip, jazz, 2 cdroms, and 2 scanners (whew). Everything runs just fine thank you. Don't sweat it, if you need 100Mb of cheap, quick online storage; buy it, it works and it works well. Just make sure you have good cables and proper termination and you'll be happy as a clam.

On the SCSI PC card side, use adaptec slim scisi. It works well and it works with everything. Don't dick around and try to save $20., get the best and save your time for more important things.

On the SCSI version:

One annoying thing about the SCSI version of the Iomega Zip drive
is that it is not strictly SCSI compatible. By that I mean it has two
DB25F sockets rather than using C50F or Mini-Micro High Density
SCSI-2; i.e., only 25 of the 50 lines are being used. This is
probably not too critical if it is the only device on the chain.
Incidentally, you can only select SCSI IDs 5 and 6.

An associated problem is choosing a SCSI PC Card (unless you
already have one). There are not that many available and only a small
subset are supported under Win95, OS/2, and Linux.
