You did not say what type of 755CD you have.  The 755CD's came with 
either a 486DX4/100, or later models had a Pentium 75 processor, like 
the CX.  The 486's use a different type of RAM module than the 
Pentiums.  If your 755CD is a 486 model, then you should have all 
manner of problems when using this memory.  Linux may have worked 
because it did not detect the incorrect memory, and just booted on 
the 8 Megs.  I don't use Linux so I don't know how it handles memory 
checks.
