Good day:
I recently purchased a ThinkPad 365ED (Cyrix 5x86C-100, 8MB RAM,
540MB HD, 4XCD-ROM, 10.4" DSTN) running Windows 95. I have had
the machine for about a week and a half now, and am fairly happy
with it. However, I have the following questions:
1) Has anyone successfully upgraded the hard drive in on of these? I
am trying to install an 810MB IBM DVAA-2810, and am having trouble
getting at the drive. According to the manual, all I should have
to do is remove a mounting screw from the base memory board and
then remove the whole base memory board to get at the drive.
However, I find that the base memory board does not want to budge,
and I am reluctant to put too much force on it. It seems like
there are some other clips to remove, but I don't know where.
I called the IBM Help Line, but was informed that this procedure
is not covered under my free support. For $3.50CDN a minute, I can
call the 1-900 line to get assistance. I would rather spend the
cash on having the Home Computing outlet do the swap for
me ($27CDN), but thought I would check the list to see if anyone
had suggestions.
2) Is this unit supposed to include the standard set of ThinkPad
utility programs that seem to be included with ever other ThinkPad
(battery monitor, display, power management, etc.) Some of
these items can be controlled from the BIOS setup screen, but
it is a bit of a pain to access this (go to a full-screen DOS shell
and hit Ctrl-Alt-F11). I prefer the utilities I have on my 360Cs,
and am wondering whether similar ones exist for the 365ED (or
any other 365's for that matter).
Thanks in advance...
Cheers
Rob Dickson
