:-) It just goes to show you, huh? I lurk in comp.sys.laptops (I wrote
the Portable Computing FAQ) and can't recall anything negative about
USAFlex. I live in Chicago and can't stand CDW, though. I'm willing to
admit that my problems with CDW stem from my being a local customer rather
than a mail order one. They are totally incompetent and unprepared at the
location on Grand Avenue. On 3 seperate occasions, I've gone there to buy
something and not gotten it because it wasn't in stock.
The 1st time, I said okay, maybe they don't keep a lot of stuff there,
and I had to wait over the weekend for a RAM module (they don't open on
Saturday) to be shipped in from the warehouse. They said in the future to
check before noon and if they didn't have it they could bring it in before
closing.
The 2nd time, that's what I did. I called at 7am and asked if they had
the item in stock. Yep, one left, according to their computers. I get to
the store and discover they item was on "hold" for someone, but because
this person might not show up, it was still on the computer. And they have
no system for noting when something is on hold. I'm there at 10 minutes to
close, can't they sell me this one and give the other person one from the
warehouse tomorrow? No.
The last time, I was told there was "one left." I asked the person to
please, please call the store and make sure they weren't holding it for
anyone. No, it's free and clear. Can you hold it for me? Suuuure. I get
to the store. What, we don't stock those here, we'd have to get it from the
warehouse. Well, the folks at the warehouse were mistaken. Sorry, but
that's not our problem, call the main office if you have a complaint.
	You'll be pleased to know that CDW gives complainers free scratch paper;
I'm sure I and other former customers appreciate this. These don't count
the times I returned a defective modem a week after I got it and they tried
to make me send it to the manufacturer rather than honor their own 30-day
warranty. Or the time I returned a Quickcam (defective software) and was
told "tough luck, buddy - that was over 30 days ago." The guy grudgingly
apologized (well, he said he was having a bad day, but never actually said
"sorry) when I pointed out I'd bought the camera the DAY BEFORE!
Again, folks who've only dealt with them over the phone rave, and the
catalog comes in handy for driving down places with price matching
guarantees. But I've given up trying to get them to take my money.
